Two men are throwing their hats in the ring, announcing their candidacy for the seat now held by State Senator Bob Leeper, who is not seeking re-election.

David Hoffman and Danny Carroll are retired law enforcement officers who bring other skills to the position, too.

Hoffman served in law enforcement for 16 years, retiring as Commander in the state of Alaska. For the past four years, has been Administrator of the medical practice of his wife, Dr. Barbara Bowers.

Carroll will hold a press conference Tuesday at 4:00 pm, to formally announces his candidacy. The announcement will be made at the Easter Seals West Kentucky Child Development Center on North 29th Street, where Carroll is President and CEO. He retired from Paducah Police in 2010 as Assistant Chief, after serving 24 years.

Hoffman wants to serve by using his knowledge of the public protection arena, and his experience dealing with dramatic changes in the business and healthcare communities of western Kentucky. His key issues are medical care, economic opportunity, lowering taxes, and education.

Hoffman said, “Our community has been so good to me and my family, and not a day goes by where I don’t feel blessed and grateful. I see the commitment this community makes to family, church and charity and I know for certain that now is the right time for me to give back and make a difference on behalf of my neighbors, my region and my state.

Hoffman and Bowers have three sons, Nicolas, Lukas and Michael, and a daughter, Megan.

Carroll hopes to bring legislative cooperation, quality education, efficient government, and a growing economy to the forefront of his campaign.

Carroll states, "My entire adult life has been spent serving others and becoming a state senator is the ultimate opportunity to serve the residents of this district and the entire state. It is my desire to ensure that the residents in all four counties in the second district continue to receive quality representation. I look forward to hearing voter concerns over the next several months and then working hard to address those concerns in the state Senate."

Carroll and his wife Teressa have 2 children, Seth, 21, and Maggie, 14. Carroll is a native of Marshall County, and he and his family live in Paducah.

Senate District 2 covers the counties of Ballard, Carlisle, Marshall and McCracken.
