A man accused of a Kevil home invasion and shooting was in court Monday, but a trial date must wait on a competency hearing.

According to the McCracken County Circuit Court Clerk, 21-year-old Spencer S. Forrest had a pretrial conference, but it was continued until August 2, so a competency hearing could take place on August 1.

Forrest was arrested in October 2017 after a string of crimes took place in the Kevil area, including a home invasion and shooting that left a woman hospitalized. The victim said she awoke to find a man in her home and he asked her for Tylenol, then allegedly shot her as she tried to walk him back outside.

Forrest was arrested four days later and reportedly told McCracken County Sheriff's detectives he had broken into several homes in the Magruder Road area over a weekend, and reportedly admitted shooting the woman. The Sheriff's Department said Forrest's family members told them he suffers from schizophrenia and had not be taking his medications.

Forrest faces three counts of burglary 1st degree, ten counts of wanton endangerment 1st degree, one count of assault 1st degree, two counts of criminal mischief 1st degree and one count of theft of a firearm.
