Iron Mom Needs Volunteers for May 13 Half Marathon
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH, KY - The seventh annual Paducah Iron Mom Half Marathon and Relay is seeking volunteers and spectator groups. This year’s race takes place on Saturday, May 13 at 7am.

This race takes a true community effort to be successful - involving first responders, city government, sponsors, and tons of volunteers. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including traffic control and assisting runners.

Spectator groups are needed to help make Iron Mom a fun event for the runners, as they cheer on those who pass by. Anyone can form a spectator group, including church youth groups, neighborhood associations, clubs, bands, sports teams, dance squads, etc. All groups must officially register to be eligible for prizes. There is no fee for spectators. A $300 cash grand prize will be given for Best Overall Group at the awards ceremony after the race.

For more information and to sign up to be a volunteer or spectator, visit or contact Amy Nolan at or 270-443-4838.

All proceeds from the race benefit Family Service Society. Founded in 1927, the Family Service Society provides assistance to residents of Paducah and McCracken County with basic needs such as food, clothing, prescription medications, emergency dental, utility assistance, personal hygiene items, household goods and Christmas food assistance.

Nearly 1,000 runners entered last year’s race, which raised $46,714. Registration is still open. To register for the half marathon or a relay team, visit
