PADUCAH, KY - A chilly Saturday morning didn't dampen the energy and enthusiasm of several hundred runners for the annual Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom Half Marathon.
With an early 6:30 am start time, Paducah Police and Fire Departments, McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police, U.S. Coast Guard, VIPS, DES, and Civil Air Patrol personnel and volunteers manned intersections throughout the 13.1 mile course. Runners ran and walked along Jefferson Street, through neighborhoods in Paducah's West End, then on to Stuart Nelson Park, the Greenway Trail, Bob Noble Park, around Lang Park in the Fountain Avenue neighborhood, in front of galleries in LowerTown, along Madison Street and back to the finish line downtown in front of the floodwall murals.
As the first few hundred runners finished, a list was posted with their times and divisions. A complete list of times and winners is on the event's official site www.paducahironmom.com
City of Paducah Human Resources Director Cindy Medford, Rehab Associates, Lourdes Hospital, and Family Service Society organized the running event which included a half marathon (13.1 miles) for individuals and for two-person and four-person relay teams. Lourdes Hospital was the lead sponsor for the race.
Medford said, “This is such a great community event. It takes the whole community coming together in cooperation, support, and ultimately in celebration of all of these runners who have worked so hard in their training efforts. From the relay runner who just completed their first couch to 5K effort, to the experienced marathoner who loves our race because of the gorgeous route, they all need our encouragement and our eyes and ears looking out for their safety. As race organizers, we are so excited to see the event continue to grow.”
The Fox family was seen taking photos at various locations along the course. Amanda Fox was at the finish line capturing images for the event. Fox Fotography provided official professional photography for the 3rd Annual Lourdes Iron Mom Half Marathon.
Proceeds from the Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom benefit Family Service Society, Inc. Founded in 1927, Family Service Society, Inc. provides immediate emergency relief to residents of Paducah and McCracken County. The Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom raised $20,000 for the organization in 2011 and $25,000 in 2012. The amount raised is expected to be even more for this year's event.
