If you see linemen or staff from Jackson Purchase Energy during October, they may look a little different - they will be wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Rodney Nickols and Vanessa Blagg from JPEC visited "The Greg Dunker Show," and said it's easy to find many items in pink this time of year, but others aren't so common. "Our outside line crews are going to be wearing pink hard hats for the full month of October," Bragg said. Nickols said as the purchasing agent for the utility, he was approached by a supplier who told him 3M was making the hard hats, and was also making a $15,000 donation to breast cancer research. Blagg said customers who visit their offices on Fridays in October will also see staff members wearing pink t-shirts and caps, and maybe even a hard hat, since the office staff purchased them too, as a sign of solidarity with linemen. Nickols said he's wanted to do this for a couple of years, since his wife is an eleven-year survivor of breast cancer. He said the logistics of getting linemen to wear pink made it tough, but the supplier's offer to provide the hard hats gave him a great way to push for it. Each employee purchased their own hard hat. "Our guys were real responsive to it, they picked right up on it, and we had 100 percent participation in it. This has affected just about someone in everybody's family, so they're familiar with it, they know all about it, " Nickols said. Blagg and Nickols said if anyone sees the linemen wearing their pink hard hats, they should honk to show their support.
