PADUCAH, KY - Are you old enough to remember those Civil Defense signs that appeared on buildings in Paducah in the 1950’s and 1960’s?  If you are and even if you aren’t, then come hear Jack Johnston tell the story of the evolution of the Civil Defense Auxiliary Fire Department and how it became our current Disaster Emergency Service Rescue Squad.  He will be speaking at the McCracken County Public Library’s “Evening Upstairs” on August 23 at 7 pm.


Johnson was recently recognized for 59 years of service to the community in the emergency service.  Along the way, he has had some interesting calls in his time with the service and he will be sharing those as well.  He will be showing photographs and will be reflecting on the changing face of the organization and its purpose as community growth and new threats required additional training and service.  There have been many changes since the early Civil Defense Network and the present and Johnson has seen them all.
