The state has approved funding to pay for repairs to a rough stretch of Paducah roadway.

At Tuesday's Paducah City Commission meeting, State Representative Gerald Watkins announced that the state has approved $3.7 million for what he says are much needed repairs to Kentucky Avenue between 12th and 16th Streets. Watkins said he has been a vocal proponent of repairing the road, and recently got the good news that his request for funding had been approved.

"This stretch is the worst street in the entire city limits," Watkins said. "I've talked about this road for years, and have tried to see if we can get something done. The governor approved it, and it's coming out of the state transportation budget.  I think it pays to have a good relationship with the governor."

Watkins said improvements to the pock-marked roadway will include a concrete surface and other needed upgrades. "There will be new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and new concrete pavement. We'll be working with Joint Sewer Agency and Paducah Water to repair or replace sewer infrastructure." Watkins said. He said the driveways in and out of Randy's Body Shop and Owen Cleaners will also be repaved.

"I'm thankful to have an opportunity to serve the people of Paducah and McCracken County, and to work with the governor to be able to make things like this happen," Watkins said. "Paducah is a wonderful place to live, but that road is just atrocious."
