A Kevil man faces theft charges following an investigation into missing items at his job.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, on September 8 detectives responded to National Maintenance on Clarks River Road, where management said numerous items, including brass and welding leads, were missing, and the items could have been sold to recycling centers. With the information given to them, detectives began their investigation using a list of employees and their acquaintances.

On Monday, detectives learned that one of the employees, 37-year-old Buck Jenkins of Kevil, had taken approximately $13,000 worth of metal to a local scrap yard since 2010, with most of it being brought in this year. During that time frame, police say Jenkins had sold approximately 514 pounds of copper and 2,900 pounds of brass. Police say photos of some of the items sold matched those taken from National Maintenance.

Monday afternoon, Jenkins was confronted by detectives and he admitted to stealing from the company for the past two years. When detectives searched his home on Bethel Church Road, they say evidence they found showed Jenkins took more than 1100 feet of welding leads, and he admitted they were taken from his employer.

Detectives say their investigation is ongoing to determine the exact amount of the items stolen, and they believe that more charges and arrests could be made.

Jenkins was arrested and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.
