McCracken Students Named To Governor's Arts School

PADUCAH, KY - Five McCracken County students were selected for the 2013 Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts. Heath High School junior Ann Wu, Lone Oak High School juniors Brenna Adams and Zac Thacker, and Lone Oak High School/Commonwealth Middle College students Logan Blackman and Megan Gibson were selected to attend GSA 2013.
The Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts provides hands-on arts opportunities for high school students who are dancers, actors, instrumental and vocal musicians, creative writers, future architects or visual artists. 1,600 students audition for the program, and 225 are selected to participate in the three week residential program.
Ann Wu is the daughter of Frankie Wu and Hui Ling Lin. Ann is a member of the Heath High School National Honor Society, FBLA and serves as secretary of Friends of Rachel. She is a 2013 graduate of the Leadership Paducah Youth L.E.A.D. class and volunteers with the Greater Paducah Sustainability Project and the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club. Ann will attend GSA with a focus in visual arts.
Brenna Adams is the daughter of Barry and Carol Adams. Brenna is a member of the Lone Oak High School cross country team and the 2012 state champion Lone Oak tennis team. She is involved in youth missions at Lone Oak First Baptist Church. She will attend GSA with a focus in creative writing.
Megan Gibson is the daughter of Joey and Susan Gibson. Megan attends the Commonwealth Middle College, has been a member of Centerstage studio for 13 years and placed first in the 2012 National Dance Competition in Las Vegas. She will attend GSA with a focus in dance.
Logan Blackman is the grandson of Joanne Blackman. Logan attends the Commonwealth Middle College, has been recognized as an All State Band member, a Quad State soloist and was named the top bassoon player in Kentucky by the Kentucky Music Educators Association for two years. He will attend GSA with a focus in instrumental music.
Zac Thacker is the son of Cathie Fergus-Watson and David Thacker. Zach is an art student at Lone Oak High School and will attend GSA with a focus in the visual arts.
