By WestKyStar Staff
PADUCAH, KY - One of Paducah’s busiest roadways was shut down for about two hours Friday afternoon after a suspicious package was found at a business.

The Paducah Police Department’s Bomb Squad was dispatched after an employee of Smoke Shop, 1950 Lone Oak Road, found the package at 1:12 pm.

When the bomb squad arrived, Sgt. Will Gilbert said, they found an off-white hard-case suitcase sitting on a curb next to the building. The squad used its portable x-ray machine to examine the suitcase and determined it contained nothing suspicious. The suitcase was seized as evidence.

Lone Oak Road was shut down between Interstate 24 and Bleich Road, and traffic was re-routed while the bomb squad got set up, x-rayed the suitcase and studied the x-ray images. The roadway was reopened at 3:34 pm.

An investigation into who left the suitcase at the business, and why, is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Paducah Police Department at 270-444-8550 or Crime Stoppers at 443-TELL.
