Lourdes Offers Free Quit Smoking Series in June
By WestKyStar & Lourdes Staff
PADUCAH, KY - Beginning in June, Lourdes Hospital will host a free smoking cessation series for those interested in quitting smoking.

To help individuals make the decision to quit, the initial class will be the Kentucky Cancer Programs “Plan To Be Tobacco Free,” which is dedicated to helping tobacco users make the decision to quit and to guide them on the use of nicotine replacement and other assistance medications. With the support of Smoking Cessation Counselors trained in the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program, the rest of the class series is catered toward individuals who have made the decision and are ready to quit smoking.  Most people know that smoking is dangerous to their health, but this program focuses almost exclusively on how to quit successfully, not why to quit. The program offers a structured, systematic approach to quitting, and its positive messaging emphasizes the benefits of better health.

This nine-session, eight-week series of classes will be offered on Thursday evenings (except for Session 6, held on a Tuesday) from 7-8 pm in the Lourdes Board Room, on the second floor of the Marshall Nemer Pavilion.

Dates of the nine sessions are: June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5, 10, 12, 19 and 26.

Lourdes will hold additional series later in the year and will announce dates at that time. The series is free and open to all tobacco users who want to quit. Prior sign up is necessary to attend. Class sizes are limited to the first 20 people. To learn more or to sign up, please call 270-538-5867.

Classes may also be arranged with employers or at locations throughout the area by contacting 270-538-5867.
