Patients are now able to schedule their own screening mammograms at the Lourdes Women’s Centers without a doctor’s order. It is recommended that women at least 40 years of age get an annual mammogram. The goal of the self-referral program is to engage patients who are currently not accessing preventive healthcare services and/or a primary care provider and to increase breast cancer prevention and early detection practices.
Starting June 1, both Lourdes Women’s Center locations will be extending scheduling hours and days for patient convenience. New hours include: Lourdes Medical Pavilion (225 Medical Center Dr., Suite 404): Mondays from 6:30 am-4:30 pm; Tuesdays from 8 am-6:30 pm; Wednesdays through Fridays from 7:30 am-3:30 pm; and Saturdays from 9 am-1 pm Marshall Nemer Pavilion (1532 Lone Oak Rd., Suite 210): Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays: from 7:30 am-5:30 pm; Wednesdays from 6:30 am-4:30 pm; and Thursdays from 8 am-6:30 pm.
At Lourdes Women’s Center, screening mammograms can now be performed on a new Tomosynthesis three-dimensional mammography machine. It takes multiple X-ray pictures of each breast from many angles, in order to provide a better image of the breast and reduce the number of call-backs for additional screenings. Tomosynthesis is essential for evaluating dense breasts.
“Through these programs, we’re providing patients with easier access to screenings,” said Bart Outzen, administrative director of medical imaging. “The goal is to detect breast cancer as early as possible. We believe this program will accomplish that. The process to schedule self-referral mammograms will be handled through Central Scheduling, the same process used to schedule an appointment with a doctor’s order.” To schedule your mammogram at either location, call 270-444-2121.
