Lourdes hospital has closed its Transitional Care, and eliminated as many as 30 management and non-clinical jobs as part of a restructuring effort.

In a press release, spokesman David Simmons suggested that the affected workers can apply for more than 40 vacant positions in other departments at Lourdes.

Simmons said the hospital made the decision to close 20 nursing home beds, but all patients currently in Lourdes Transitional Care unit will complete their treatments. The release said the cuts were part of an effort to "maintain the highest commitment to patient safety while also meeting the national expectation to reduce healthcare costs."

Simmons said the hosptial is confident that their partnerships with area nursing homes will provide future patients with excellent outcomes that maximize their independence.
