A Paducah man faces several charges after an armed standoff with police Monday morning in the Lone Oak area.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says deputies responded at 9:43 a.m. to a home on Brunswick Circle to do a welfare check, after someone reported a man and woman arguing in front of the home. Deputies said they learned the man, 42-year-old Courtland Neal Eugene Smith, had a handgun. Smith had reportedly told deputies that a woman was also inside the home, and "if the cops responded this was not going to end well".

The woman was able to get away from the home, and told deputies another person was still inside asleep. Deputies made contact with the sleeping man on his cell phone and were able to get him out of a window safely without alerting Smith.

Deputies surrounded the home, and Smith ran out the back door. He then ran back inside. After an hour of negotiating deputies used a flash grenade, and were able to take Smith into custody. Smith's handgun was later found to be an air pistol.

Smith was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail without incident. He was charged with disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication, resisting arrest.
