A man was arrested Thursday night in Paducah on robbery charges.

According to the Paducah Police Department, the incident happened on H.C. Mathis Drive near Five Star Food Mart. The victim told officers that after he left the store, a black man in a green coat struck him and stole the beer he had purchased, along with $17 in cash.

Police say they spotted someone matching the victim's description near the intersection of North 26th Street and Park Avenue. When the man saw police, they say he dropped the beer and ran, but was caught with the help of the department's newest K-9 officer, "Don."

Police say 41-year-old Shyron Smith resisted arrest, but was taken into custody. He faces charges of 2nd degree robbery, fleeing or evading police on foot, and resisting arrest.
