A new scam has surfaced, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies learned Wednesday that a man wanted to call Apple Customer Service, so he used Google to get a phone number. The man said he spoke to someone named "Ricky," who told him he must buy iTunes gift cards and send them to him, and he would receive new iPhones.

Deputies say the victim began getting persistent calls from two different numbers, 855-260-3196 and 800-392-0805.

The man eventually found a correct number for Apple and they told him the calls were from a scammer.

The Sheriff's Department reminds everyone they should not give information to anyone who calls and demands payment because it may be a scam. They said no legitimate company asks for payment using gift cards. When in doubt, contact the business directly and verify account information.

A West Kentucky Star reporter searched Google for Apple Customer Service and found multiple search results, giving the number 800-MY-APPLE (800–692–7753). The line is available 7 days a week from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm Central time.
