Marijuana Plants Found in Vegetable Garden

PADUCAH, KY - The Paducah Police Department arrested two people Wednesday on charges of cultivating marijuana in their back yard.

According to police, Officer Beau Green conducted an investigation after receiving information that marijuana was growing in the back yard of 43-year-old David B. Minnis and 37-year-old Tiffany A. Minnis of Paducah.

Officers discovered that five marijuana plants were growing in a vegetable garden in the backyard of the residence.

David B. Minnis was charged with cultivating marijuana (five plants or more) first offense and lodged in the McCracken County Jail.

Tiffany A. Minnis was charged with complicity to cultivate marijuana (five plants or more), cited and released.

  Xanax and Valium are both highly addictive. In fact, withdrawals from Benzos (Valium, Xanax, etc) can cause seizurea leading to death. There are other ways to address anxiety besides loading up on some sort of chemical, including THC. At least that's my opinion.

  Independent- if a person is smoking weed for anxiety, of course the anxiety is going to return if they quit smoking. But that's no different than if a person takes Valium or Xanax for anxiety, stop taking your pills and the anxiety will return. I don't smoke weed any more, but it did more to help me sleep than the "legal" prescription drugs my Dr gave me- and without the side effects that Ambien causes.

  M.C. Please (and I mean this) to base the totality of your knowledge on government studies and statistics. I'm sure you're getting the straight scoop. lol And, you certainly don't have to believe, and you certainly will not if you are a fan of Marijuana. I don't know whether you are or not, but my guess it that you are Many, many, many regular, heavy pot smokers like to make the argument that they smoke da weed "because it's the only thing that helps my anxiety." I would argue that the "anxiety" could more accurately be termed "withdrawal symptoms." I dont expect you to believe that either, being as the government hasn't told you to believe it, but I have had a number of heavy, frequent Marijuana users tell me that indeed is the case...that it is withdrawal in the form of anxiety. I have also had a number of them tell me that irritability resulting from withdrawal of THC has resulted in incidents of domestic violence in the home. Again, I suggest that you wait around for the government to catch up with reality, and then maybe can pass it on to you. After all, deaths of Kentuckians dying of prescription drug abuse has been at epidemic levels for years, and guess what? Kentucky state government finally acknowledged that......weeks ago.

  Breaking some laws is a felony, breaking some laws is a misdemeanor. I guess Kyle W meant that he thinks it ridiculous that comparing a law that requires people to turn in Jews so that they can be sent to a concentration camp is not on the same plane as a law that forbids people to smoke dope. Either way, though, you get caught and there's some punishment involved, whether you agree with the law or not. Might makes right.

  Independent T., I for one think you are full of it. I can find no studies linking domestic violence with marijuana, just alcohol. Perhaps you are biased by looking at court cases because there are always additional charges when marijuana is present. When officers arrive at the location of a domestic violence incident don't they usually ask "to look around". You probably don't know this, but marijuana has a distinctive smell and if has been smoked in a house, a visiting officer (who is trained to smell it) it can probably find it. The same can't be said for pills and powders that don't stink up the place when used. If it were legal, there would be nothing to add to the court case, just like there are no "alcohol possession" charges matched up with domestic violence. Correlation is not causation.

  Whores,Jews & Immoral laws. Try this angle - Keep it in your own yard and treat it as drinks on highways,not harm your kids or other kids.. Grow 6 plants for home use state taxes each plant 25 dollars. Who loses? We just said the drunks can still drive across our county without a fine or tax. Da Clowns.

Drug laws are immoral" Sir, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, but most right thinking people will disagree with you including me. Drug laws are no more immoral than laws against prostitution, or gambling. But if you feel like breaking a law you feel is immoral you are free to do so. But you also will pay the price when you get caught, no matter if you think the law is immoral or not. That is how our system works. Don't like the system then work to change it.   Darren, No I do not agree with breking a law bcause I think it's silly. Here people go again twisting everything around to have a different meaning. I feel that what a person does on their own property is absolutely none of anyone elses business-AS LONG AS NO HUMAN OR ANIMAL IS HARMED. And Darren I stand my ground on the Gay Rights issue. Do not support it and never will. I will not discuse this issue here because it is not the place.

  there is a reason why our country is going broke... but hey.. all hail the prison industrial complex.. how else are we gonna continue to line the legal society's pockets at the expense of every one else in society.. my stepbrother grew up in the USSR and moved here in the 90s when the USSR broke up, he recently told me that he had never seen as many cops in the USSR as he saw in rural countys in kentucky and because of where our country is headed (ie police state) moved back to Moscow for a better opportunity... things like this are the reason why, think about how many nonproductive thugs working for the state would be out of a phony job if something like the WOD (collosal failure) were to suddenly disappear... fact is the state makes way too much money off the WOD to ever repeal these draconian laws in the "land of the fee, home of the debt slaves"

  Chris M - You should probably get a more accurate biblical worldview if you are going to try and justify drug use/ abuse using scripture. Genesis 1:29 was within the creation narrative, which was when the Earth was in a sinless state. God gave Adam and Eve everything for their enjoyment, then sin entered the world because of Adam's selfishness and desire to be "like God". After that the Earth was no longer "good", but tainted and so began the entire fall of creation and need of a Savior. Marijuana may have been originally "good", but man turned it into something else. As I have said many times, I am not either for/ against people smoking pot. I see no difference in that and drinking, they both cause the same effect and make people unable to do certain things effectively or safely. Just please don't try to justify sin by quoting a bible verse out of context.

  A LOT of 4th degree assault/domestic violence among heavy marijuana users, Chris M. How do you square that with your beliefs or do you deny that it is the case? Now, let's make it clear that this has been my observation, I don't know or care what kind of government stats confirm or dispute my account.   Actually BL, my "worlview" (sic) is based on the Non-agression principle. Basically, if you are not offering violence or fraud against another you should be left alone to do what you will. I think you are confusing "anarchy" with "chaos" they are two different things. Most people live their lives in a state of anarchy every day. They don't live in chaos. I don't need a leader to tell me how to treat other people. I don't need a leader to tell me not to hurt other people or not to steal their property. It sounds like you do.

  BL: If you want to drive 120, why not. If you harm someone else you should be held responsible. If you steal from Kroger, you are harming them. So, yes people are getting hurt. As for people invading my house, they are then violating my rights. I never said it was OK to violate someone else's rights. I said if you do not harm another you should be left the hell alone. In 2 out of 3 of your "examples" you are harming another person. You are the one who said "laws are laws, not suggestions". But if you want an answer, yes I have taken a homeless person into my home before. I fed them and gave them a roof over their head until they could get on their feet. That is what Jesus would have done. But I did it voluntarily.

  I'd be ashamed to even call this a bust when these people harmed no one. They were obviously growing it for their own use at their own free will and causing no harm so why bother them? I have to agree with Chris M. Some laws are not right and should be broken as long as others are not harmed. If broken enough or people say they are fed up then maybe it won't be a law anymore...problem solved oh but wait where will the easy money come from for the court system?

  Judy - This is not about Jews that would have lost their lives. There is a huge, insurmountable difference between causing someone their life (against God's law) and man’s law against cultivating marijuana. God's law trumps man's law in ALL situations. I really don't try to turn things into religious "arguments" and try to reason with folks first, even when they seem to be lacking in the common sense department. Judy, you know enough about my Christian values and beliefs from other posts here to have a good idea what my answer would have been, which leads me to believe you are just trying to stir the pot a little. I will not shy away from my Christianity, beliefs or values that stem from God.

  So, Chris M. - You are saying that society dictates morality? Hyperbole about slaves and Nazis have no bearing in this. Don't build a strawman argument to try and justify breaking laws. There are a ton of laws that I don't agree with as well. Why should I have to go 70mph on the highway? I want to go 120. I also don't want to pay for my groceries tonight at Kroger, nobody will get hurt there either. How about all the homeless people in the area come shack up at your house? They can bring their own food, water, sleeping bags and such and just use your house to stay cool in. It won't harm you at all, might inconvenience you. But, hey, as long as enough people in society say that we agree that Chris M. should allow people to live there, then it should be totally acceptable. They can even help you cultivate your "crops".

  As for "following the laws" America has a tradition of breaking laws that prohibit freedom. Those guys that signed the Declaration of Independence were breaking the law on a much wider scale. I don't smoke pot but I think it has numerous medical, societal, and industrial uses that would be very beneficial to the human race.

  Immoral laws should be broken. Immoral laws should be ignored. Drug laws are immoral. The old "vote someone else in" canard, yeah, if that worked we would not be allowed to vote. These people did not harm anyone. The pot would not have harmed anyone. The only reason anything should be against the law is because the action is a use of force or fraud against another person. Tell me, BL, would you have turned Jews over to the Nazis? After all it was the law. How about escaped slaves? Would you have followed the Fugitive Slave Act? After all, it was the law and as you said, "laws are laws". The only way to end these laws is for enough people to break them and enough juries to vote "Not Guilty" no matter what the law says.

  The problem is that it's against the law. Don't like the laws? Get elected to office or elect someone with the same views and change them. I'm not for or against marijuana, but am for following law. You don't run through a red light just because you think it's wrong for a red light to be in a particular location. You don't steal a TV from Wal Mart just because they make millions a year and you don't. Laws are laws, not suggestions. Break one and receive a punishment, albeit our "system" is not very good about following through with adequate punishments these days.
