McCracken County High School was selected to receive the 2018 National 1st Place High School Student Body Award, sponsored by Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Student Body is a peer education program designed to teach students how to make informed decisions about their health and provide opportunities to teach others about making healthy choices.

As the national 1st Place High School, the McCracken chapter will receive a $1,000 award at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference, June 28 – July 2 in Atlanta, GA.

The MCHS FCCLA Chapter addressed childhood tooth decay in their project. Their project was called Tooth Fairy On Tour.

The goals for the Tooth Fairy on Tour project were to educate teens on the importance of good oral hygiene and healthy eating. The teens would then take what they learn and teach the program to area preschools and elementary classrooms. They also wanted to hand out new toothbrushes and toothpaste to their audiences. The goal was to see an increase in knowledge on oral hygiene practices in preschool and elementary aged students.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has more than 164,000 members and more than 5,300 chapters from 49 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
