A McCracken County man was arrested Sunday for assaulting a woman and running from police.

According to Paducah Police, officers responded Sunday afternoon to the Subway restaurant inside Lourdes Hospital. Police said 22-year-old Victoria Fernandez told officers that 20-year-old Joseph Cerullo came into the restaurant where she worked in violation of an emergency protective order, jumped over the counter and began hitting her in the face and head.

A bystander told police he tried to stop Cerullo from fleeing, and Cerullo pulled a knife and made slashing motions toward him.

An Officer spotted Cerullo outside the hospital and ordered him to stop, but Cerullo fled on foot, running onto Lone Oak Road. Cerullo’s grandmother then pulled up and he got into the car with her. Police said Cerullo had called her after leaving the Subway restaurant.

Cerullo was arrested on charges of violating an EPO/DVO, fourth-degree assault, second-degree assault and first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot). He was admitted to Lourdes Hospital after police learned he had ingested an unknown quantity of drugs prior to the incident.
