The McCracken County school board decided not to raise property tax rates at Thursday night's school board meeting.

The board held discussion on the possibility of raising property taxes by up to four percent.

One member of the public appeared to voice his concerns over the possible tax hike. "It's tax, tax, tax, maybe if you run your ship right maybe you wouldn't be in this mess," the commenter said. "Raising taxes is not going to help, all you're going to do is make people more angry.  I don't think raising taxes is the right thing to do."

After comments, the board voted unanimously to maintain the previous years tax rates of 53.8 cents per $100 for both the real estate and tangible rates. They also maintained the motor vehicle and watercraft tax at 52.9 cents per $100.
