Two people were hurt when they were struck by a vehicle Friday night while trying to help after a single-vehicle crash.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says deputies were called to a single-vehicle accident without injuries on an icy bridge in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 60. As they arrived, they learned that another accident had just occurred involving another vehicle and two pedestrians.

Deputies say the second driver, 31-year-old Kayla Champion of Paducah, lost control on the icy bridge and struck 47-year-old Kenneth Poloski of Kevil and 54-year-old Richard Merrill of Metropolis. They were reportedly trying to help the driver of the first accident, but were knocked over the guard rail of the bridge and down an embankment. Champion's car then struck the vehicle the men had been traveling in.

Poloski and Merrill were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Champion was not hurt, but was arrested on an unrelated McCracken County warrant.
