Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center will be moving clients onto the new campus just in time for Christmas.

All furniture needs and other essentials will be moved beginning Thursday. A certificate of occupancy is being prepared for the third of five buildings on Merryman House’s new 13-acre campus.

Merryman House and Mountain Comprehensive Care Center together purchased the former McCracken County School Board property located on Berger Road in Paducah. The property consists of approximately 26 acres and 8 institutional buildings, and will become the campus where both nonprofits will work together to provide domestic and substance abuse intervention services.

In early 2017, the organization moved most of its administrative employees to one of the smaller buildings, and the Outreach Office was moved onto the campus during the summer.

The move includes furnishing twelve family suites with bed frames, mattresses, night stands and bathroom essentials. The shelter can occupy up to 36 beds for clients and their children, a 50% increase from their current shelter space.

Other areas to be furnished include a kitchenette area, dining/ group meeting area, two lounges, children’s playroom, and teen rooms. The new shelter will help fulfill state required separate areas for tots and teens, a previous regulation the organization could not fulfill due to space constraints, as well as allowing clients a space of their own to reflect, heal and move forward toward their new future.

As part of the move-in, Bill Ford, of Bill Ford Interiors Inc. has donated his time and materials to decorate the shelter for the holidays before the clients move in later this month.

“It’s just one more way we want to instill hope for the future for our clients,” said Mary Foley, Executive Director.

“This is the best gift we could give our clients and the community!” said Merryman Kemp, Founder and current Capital Campaign Chair. “A campus like this is second to none in our state, and maybe the nation! And I could not be prouder of the organization’s transformation.”

“Domestic Violence intersects with so many barriers to success: homelessness, addiction, mental health, financial stress to name a few. At the root of much of this is trauma. With the new campus and partnerships in place we will now truly be able to provide a holistic approach to care for these individuals,” Foley said.

Essentially, this campus will become a statewide resource for survivors of domestic violence, but will keep the Purchase Region as its main priority. Residential domestic violence and substance abuse services provided in this collaborative way are not offered anywhere in our region, with the closest program located in Owensboro.

Merryman House remains in a capital campaign and continues to seek individual, corporate, and foundation support for developing its new campus. With the leadership of Merryman Kemp and the capital campaign team, Merryman House continues to develop donor streams, including both monetary and in-kind donations.
