A Mayfield man who was stopped for having only one functioning tail light on his vehicle was arrested after fleeing from police.

According to the Paducah Police Department, an officer was patrolling areas that have seen a high number of thefts from vehicles when he encountered a car sitting in the middle of the intersection of Jackson Street and Lone Oak Road. As the vehicle pulled away, the officer pulled it over for having only one functioning tail light. The driver, who was identified as 49 year-old Robert Murphy of Mayfield, jumped from the car and fled on foot.

Murphy was caught after a brief chase and arrested on charges of second-degree fleeing or evading police and for the vehicle equipment violation. A computer check showed Murphy was also wanted on warrants in Christian County, charging him with second-degree escape and contempt of court.

He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
