James Biggs Memorial: Oncology Room Named for Him
By WestKyStar & Baptist Health Staff
PADUCAH, KY - Former Paducah Mayor Gerry Montgomery remembers her late father, James Biggs, Sr., as a man always willing to lend a helping hand, especially to those who needed it the most.

It’s no wonder then that she and her husband, Dr. Wally Montgomery, wanted to dedicate a room in his memory that would bring comfort to cancer patients every day.  Baptist Health recently dedicated the Biggs Radiation Oncology Dressing Rooms in the newly-renovated H. Earl Feezor Regional Radiation Therapy Center, thanks to the couple’s gift to Baptist Health Foundation Paducah’s “Celebrating Miracles, Transforming Lives” capital campaign last year.

The dressing rooms are used daily for patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments. The radiation therapy center is part of the Ray & Kay Eckstein Regional Cancer Care Center.

James Biggs was active in the Paducah community as a hospital board trustee, owner and manager of Biggs Supermarket and an Immanuel Baptist Church deacon and treasurer.

“Mr. Biggs served his community for decades as a local business owner, and civic leader, helping hundreds of our friends and neighbors; and served this hospital as one of its early leaders, laying the groundwork for what has become Baptist Health Paducah,” said Chris Roty, Health Paducah president.
