New Recyclable Drop-Off Location in Paducah

Paducah residents will soon have a new location to drop off their recyclable items.

At Tuesday's Paducah City Commission meeting, Public Information Officer Pam Spencer briefed the Mayor and Commissioners on the progress of negotiating a recycling drop-off facility with Republic Services. After Greater Paducah Sustainability Project notified the city on that it would no longer be taking recyclables at its recycling facility on North 8th Street, the City began a negotiation process with Republic Services.  The written agreement is reportedly still being drafted.

According to a press release, Beginning April 1, Republic Services will begin accepting recyclables during regular business hours at its Transfer Station located at 829 Burnett Street. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm, and Saturday from 7:00 am until noon. There is no charge for the general public to drop off recyclables.

Recycling at the new drop-off location will involve entering the gates of Republic’s Transfer Station on Burnett Street (look for the CWI sign) and making a sharp right into a gravel area where large recycling bins will be located. Recycling customers will then exit through a gate that will take them onto North 8th Street. Customers will need to unload their recyclables and place them into the appropriate container. There is a separate container for cardboard; however, all other accepted recyclables can be placed together in the bins. No sorting is necessary.

Items that will be accepted are: cardboard, pasteboard, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, phone books, office paper, tin, steel, and aluminum cans, and plastic containers. Republic will not accept electronics or batteries, household hazardous waste, items tainted by food, food waste, Styrofoam, or glass.
