McCracken County High School students interested in extracurricular sports will have a couple of new options when they head back to school.

At a special Tuesday afternoon meeting, the McCracken County Board of Education approved the addition of bowling and bass fishing to the school's lineup of extracurricular sports. MCHS Activities Director Kris Garrett said a recent survey showed interest in these two sports was high enough to warrant their addition to the lineup. "Those are activities we currently don't have, and there does seem to be sufficient interest in those things." Garrett said.

Archery is another sport that Garret said he would like to see added, but the board chose to leave it off for now because unlike the other activities, it must be made part of the official curriculum. Safety concerns were also raised over students having access to potentially dangerous equipment.

Garrett said he would like to see archery be made part of the curriculum eventually. "It's something that we could do later in the fall, or maybe even spring semester if we decide to pass it," Garrett said. "If not, then that would give them one full year to work that into their curriculum."
