PADUCAH, KY - Everyone is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of the greenway trail.  The ceremony will be Friday, August 3 at 9 am along the floodwall levee at the end of Campbell Street in downtown Paducah.  Parking is available in the Paducah Expo Center parking lot. 

 

This phase of the Greenway Trail project will consist of the construction of approximately 8,800 linear feet (1.67 miles) of a concrete pedestrian and bicycle trail on the city’s earthen floodwall levee.  The trail will begin at Campbell Street and stop behind the Smoke Shop on North 8th Street.  Two shelters, four benches, and signs also are included in the project.  Even though a concrete trail is more expensive than an asphalt trail, the concrete will require less maintenance and be more durable.  Also, the concrete will be cooler during the summer since it is lighter in color.    

 

At its July 24 meeting, the Paducah Board of Commissioners authorized the contract in the amount of $543,759 with Wilkins Construction Company to construct this phase of the greenway trail.  The stretch of trail is funded in part by a 2006 federal Transportation Enhancement grant. 

 

A future phase of the Greenway Trail, which is under design, will connect the existing trail in Noble Park to this phase.  The City of Paducah currently has a trail approximately 1.75 miles in length that runs from Noble Park to County Park Road at the Perkins Creek Nature Preserve.
