An Arlington man faces several charges, after a police pursuit that ended with a crash.

At around 2:00 pm Friday, a McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle that was sitting in a field across from Energy Fitness, just off of Holt Road near the Friendship Road intersection.

Police said when the officer arrived, she reportedly saw a van parked in a field with a man sitting in it. When the man saw the sheriff’s cruiser, he drove through the field and through several yards at high speed out and onto Hansen Road. The deputy continued the pursuit and ran the license plate, which came back as registered to a Mayfield couple, but not stolen.

The man continued to evade police, and drove out onto US 60 West. As he was attempting to turn in front of Red Lobster, he lost control of the van and ran up and over metal railing. The cruiser then hit the rear of the van.

The driver of the van, 28-year-old Dustin L. Redmon, of Arlington was immediately placed under arrest and charged with fleeing or evading 1st degree-wanton endangerment 1st degree-receiving stolen property over $10,000 and other charges.. Police said Redmon has previous convictions for felony burglary, and criminal trespass.

Police later contacted the owner of the van, who told them it was supposed to be at a mechanic shop in Mayfield having work performed on it, and that they had had no idea why it would be in Paducah. Further investigation revealed that the van was stolen from a mechanic shop Wednesday evening, but shop employees thought the owner had picked it up.

Both the deputy involved in the chase and Redmon were both taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  Police said Redmon later confessed to stealing the van from the shop.

Police said additional charges are pending from the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for theft of the vehicle.
