The demolition contractor for the old Ledbetter Bridge expects to take down the top half of one of the remaining in-water piers on Tuesday. Work was originally set to begin Monday, but was pushed back due to weather concerns and increased river flow from weekend rains..

The contractor is planning to knock over the main pier closest to the Livingston County shoreline sometime after 12:00 pm, to be followed by topping of the pier nearest the McCracken shore the next day.

The contractor says river flow at the site has allowed silt to refill some of the dredged-out area dredged which will be used to bury a portion of the pier tops below the bottom of the river, so additional dredging may also be required.

If all goes well with removing the top of both piers this week, the contractor has tentative plans to detonate the remaining bottom portion of both piers with explosives around December 4th.
