According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the Ohio Valley regional outlook will be "warmer than normal, with slightly below normal precipitation."
Specifically, the just-released publication calls for a colder than normal November, followed by a December that is 8 degrees above average, with below average precipitation. For Christmas, the forecast is for cold conditions along with rain and snow.
In January, temperatures are expected to be about a degree above normal overall, but with a bitter cold period just after the new year. A degree below normal for February is predicted, and snow showers are expected into March, with temperatures averaging 3 degrees colder than normal.
For next summer, temperatures are predicted to be at or below normal, with slightly drier conditions than average.
The almanac claims a historical accuracy rate of 80 percent.
Their secret to success starts with a study of the 11-year solar cycle, global indicators like El Nino, and a look back through historical data to find similar patterns in previous years.
