One teenager faces charges after another teen accidentally shot himself in the leg with a stolen handgun.

Robin Newberry with the Paducah Police Department says officers were called late Saturday night when a 15-year-old showed up at the emergency room at Baptist Health Paducah with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police say the teen had been at a local restaurant when he shot himself in the leg as he was getting into a car.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police say the driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Ronnie Jones of Paducah, drove to his home and tried to clean the blood out of his car.

Jones later confessed to taking the gun, which he reportedly knew was stolen, from his car into his home and hiding it. The gun, which police say was taken from an unlocked vehicle on Iroquois Drive, was reported stolen on Jan. 20.

Jones was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (firearm) and tampering with physical evidence. Jones is a senior guard on the McCracken County High School boys basketball team. School officials declined to comment on Jones' arrest. Jones did not play in he Mustangs' game at Murray High Monday night.

The 15-year-old remains hospitalized in reported good condition.
