One of the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club facilities in Paducah is closing its doors, due to ongoing financial challenges and a building needing extensive repairs.

The organization tells West Kentucky Star that the Midtown facility on Oscar Cross Avenue, which houses middle school and high school students, will be closing and all the activities will be consolidated with the Park Avenue location.

The Club's Board of Directors voted to close the Midtown facility, because they say the building needs significant repairs and that's going to cost more money than they have.

The press release to the Star says in part, "the OCBGC finds itself, like so many nonprofit organizations, facing financial challenges in order to continue serving as a vital force in the Paducah-McCracken County community.  The OCBGC has historically dealt with financial constraints, but the OCBGC Board of Directors is taking aggressive measures to improve the near and long term viability of the Club.

The OCBGC Board of Directors has recently put in place action steps to consolidate resources, solidify funding sources and plan for long term community needs while ensuring future growth.

Currently, the OCBGC Midtown facility on Oscar Cross Avenue houses middle school and high school students.  The OCBGC Park Avenue location on Park Avenue houses our kindergarten through 5th grade students.  The OCBGC Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to close the Midtown facility on June 1.  All summer programs will be consolidated to the Park Avenue location.  Following a facilities assessment, it is clear that the Midtown building is in need of significant repairs at a tremendous cost.  It is unclear at this time when or if the Midtown facility will reopen.  The Board of Directors is assessing the situation.

We are taking the necessary steps to ensure the Club remains a vital resource in the community.  The OCBGC BOD is working to exhaust all options when deciding how to best position the Club for the future and welcome any suggestions, guidance or financial support."
