A man is in police custody after an apparent standoff during which he climbed a Paducah cell tower and argued with authorities for hours.

The Paducah Police Department says that at around 2:30 pm Monday a man climbed about 45 feet up the tower near the area of 16th and Clark Streets, and argued with firefighters and police for some time before finally coming down about three hours later.

Officers say they called in the department's crisis negotiation team to help talk the man down from the tower.

The man's identity has not yet been released, but officers say he was taken to a facility for a mental health evaluation.
