Paducah Man Arraigned on Rape, Abuse Charges
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH - Gary Pugh was arraigned in McCracken Circuit Court on Thursday, related to the rape and assault of an elderly woman.

The court clerk says a not guilty plea was automatically entered on Pugh's behalf, and a preliminary hearing was set for 9 am on November 30.

Pugh's charges date back to July 20, when he was arrested by the McCracken County Sheriff's Department. They investigated a sexual assault at a home in the Oaks Road area, and found that neighbors had kept Pugh from leaving the property.

The 80-year-old woman told deputies Pugh came to her home and said he wanted to pray for her, but locked the door behind himself and forced her into the bathroom. He allegedly punched the victim in the face several times, slammed her head into the bathtub, and repeatedly threatened to kill her. Deputies say Pugh began sexually assaulting the woman, but was interrupted by a neighbor who came to check on her after seeing a strange vehicle at the home.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and released. Pugh, who is 38, faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and second degree assault.
