A Paducah man was arrested Monday evening after a police investigation into several Farley area vehicle break-ins.

Between late Sunday evening and early Monday morning, multiple vehicles in the Farley area of McCracken County were entered and various valuables were stolen. Reports were taken from Shoulders Lane, Husbands Road, Estes Lane, Champ Drive, Lane Road, and several locations within the Happy Hollow Subdivision to name a few.  At several of these locations the suspect/s did not take any items, only sifted through the vehicles looking for items of interest.

In an effort to combat the thefts and for fear they would continue to escalate, detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department conducted a late night operation in efforts to catch the person or person responsible. As part of this detail detectives placed vehicles in various areas with cameras positioned to capture any unlawful entry into the vehicles, and flooded various areas in unmarked vehicles.

At around 11:07 p.m. Monday, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a call that an unlawful entry had been made into a residence located at 229 Arizona Street. Both patrol and detectives responded to the location in question and located a juvenile along with 21-year-old Tyler R. Cope inside the trailer. Deputies determined that the couple did have permission to be at the trailer by the resident, however while investigating the call detectives observed a driver’s license on the ground in plain view beside the stairwell along with other pieces of paperwork/receipts. A closer examination revealed that the driver’s license belonged to a victim that had reported her license stolen from her vehicle from the Happy Hollow area on Monday. The various pieces of paperwork revealed receipts that contained both the victim’s name and address of the Lane Road area that had also reported their vehicle to have been broken into the day prior.

A search of the trailer revealed additional items that were believed to have been stolen from victims that had their vehicles broken into the day prior. Property has been recovered that had been taken from at least two different victims at this time. Cope, who is currently out on felony probation and had been charged by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department in 2011 for breaking into vehicles, was arrested and charged with two counts of Receiving Stolen Property Under $500.00. He was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.

These cases are pending further investigation and additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming.  All vehicles that were entered were believed to have been left unlocked at the time of the thefts.
