A Paducah man was arrested after police say he bit off the tip of another man’s finger during an altercation early Friday morning.

The Paducah Police Department says officers responded at 2:20 a.m. to Baptist Health Paducah. There they found 44-year-old Byron Parker of Carbondale, IL, who told officers he and 20-year-old Malik Shell were in a vehicle parked in the 900 block of Boyd Street when they got into an altercation. Parker said he attempted to take the car keys and Shell bit the little finger of his right hand off at the first joint.

Police later found the tip of Parker’s finger inside the vehicle.

Officers found Shell at his home and arrested him shortly before 6 a.m. He was booked into the McCracken County Jail on a charge of second-degree assault.

A computer check revealed outstanding warrants for Parker. He was issued citations for warrants charging him with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended or revoked operator’s license, second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), possession of open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle and two counts of fourth-degree assault.
