A Paducah man arrested in 2017 on charges related to elder abuse has pleaded guilty in McCracken County Circuit Court.

Court records show 48-year-old Lance Carter entered a guilty plea Monday to charges of second-degree assault and exploiting an adult. Carter's plea deal carries a five-year sentence on each charge, to run consecutively.

Carter's wife, Rebecca is also facing charges of exploiting an adult, resisting arrest, failing to report abuse, second-degree fleeing from police, third-degree assault of a police officer, and third-degree criminal mischief.

The charges against the couple stem from allegations they bought several thousand dollars worth of tools, generators, compressors, or other equipment from Home Depot stores using the victims' store credit card in July 2017, and then sold the items at a pawn shop. They are also accused of physically abusing the woman.

Formal sentencing in Lance Carter's case has been set for May 7.
