Don Alvey of Paducah, Kentucky, is fighting leukemia and loves “Duck Dynasty.” On his way home from the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, he and his wife Judy stopped in West Monroe to eat at Willie’s Duck Diner and see the sights.

“On the way home, he wanted to come by West Monroe, Louisiana, to see where ‘Duck Dynasty’ is done,” Judy Alvey said.

While eating dinner Saturday night at another local restaurant, Don Alvey suffered a heart attack and was taken to Glenwood Regional Medical Center, where he remains in intensive care.

Judy Alvey could have possibly found herself stranded in West Monroe without any other friends or family to help her.

But the Alveys are making new friends quickly.

While Don Alvey recovers, local stars of the hit reality television show and members of the Robertson family have come to visit, including Kay Robertson and John Godwin.

Judy Alvey said her husband will most likely need open heart surgery, but they want it performed in their hometown. She is working to find a way to transport her husband home.

“They are trying to get him airlifted from Glenwood to Paducah,” Hart said. “I think he’s stable right now.”
