An officer with the Paducah Police Department is running for Sheriff of Carlisle County.

Will Gilbert announced he is running for Sheriff on Monday, but said he had filed paperwork for his candidacy in November.

Gilbert grew up in Carlisle County but just recently moved back to the Cunningham area with his family. A Marine veteran, he has worked at the Paducah Police Department since 1999.

During his service with Paducah Police, he has worked in several different departments, including the Patrol Division, Drug and Vice Enforcement unit, General Investigative Unit, and as Commander of the Paducah Bomb Squad. He has also served as an advisor to the local Explorers Troop for students interested in law enforcement.

Gilbert's candidacy website says his goals, if elected, are professional service, narcotics enforcement and youth education.

Gilbert and his wife Angie have two sons. They love hunting and fishing organized sports, and are members at Harmony Baptist Church in West Paducah. They are currently looking for a church home in Carlisle County.

Gilbert also enjoys woodworking, and is part of the award-winning Regulators barbeque team.
