While some communities have already canceled their Independence Day festivities, the city of Paducah is making plans for a "social distancing" fireworks display this year.

In a press release Thursday, the city announced plans to move the display from the riverfront to Paxton Park golf course. They will contract with Arthur Rozzi Pyrotechnics to use special "high aerial fireworks" that will be able to be seen from backyards and sidewalks all across the city. Paxton Park will be closed during the display.

Independence Bank will be the partner with the city to make this year's fireworks possible.

The display will begin at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th, with a rain date of Sunday the 5th if needed.

Communities that have canceled fireworks this year include Calvert City, Metropolis and Golconda.
