The Paducah Riverfront Project is moving forward, according to recommendations from the Paducah Riverfront Development Authority.

Chairman Bruce Brockenborough presented findings of several months of review regarding the project, specifically the next phase, which is to review the project elements and available grant funding after the first phase, in which the rock base and twelve steel pilings did not bring the project to the desired elevation.

Mayor Gayle Kaler said, "We needed to let the rock settle as planned, but we need to wrap our minds our this project. It was finally here, not just on paper."

The Board presented several recommendations to best utilize the $5.1 million available in grant funding, which included finishing the next phase of the project and not abandoning the work that already has taken place.

If the project were abandoned, it would jeopardize grants still available and could void Paducah's permit with the Corps of Engineers.

To get the rock base up to the desired elevation, the PRDA calculates that 67,500 tons of rock is still needed for the park. The PRDA says the next phase would be to finish the park in addition to the transient dock/pier.
