Police have charged a Paducah woman in an April hit and run case.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's office, Angela Hagan was traveling south on Olivet Church Road on the evening of April 24, approaching the intersection of Harris Road. As Hagan was passing the intersection, a small red car pulled out from Harris Road and struck Hagan’s vehicle on the passenger side. After the crash, the red car left the scene without stopping and Hagan returned to the scene.

Police said the suspect, 21-year-old Meredith Hawthorne of Paducah contacted them and admitted to being the driver of the red car after pictures of the vehicle were released to the media on May 18.

Hawthorne reportedly told police that after colliding with Hagan’s vehicle, she stopped briefly in the roadway to see if the other vehicle was going to stop. Police said Hawthorne told them that the other vehicle continued south on Olivet Church Road, and that she pulled onto the parking lot of Subway to see if the other driver came back her direction, but she never did. Police said the scene of the crash is not visible from the Subway parking lot.

Police said Hawthorne told them she didn’t contact them because she already had previous damage to the front of her car, and believed the other vehicle involved had left the area.

Hawthorne was served with a criminal summons Wednesday for leaving the scene of an accident, a Class A Misdemeanor.
