A Paducah woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Paducah Police Department, the crash happened just before 5 pm on Alben Barkley Drive at Kennedy Road. Witnesses told police that a minivan, driven by 78-year-old Joyce Barefield of Paducah, was on Kennedy Road, attempting to turn right onto Alben Barkley Drive.

Police said Barefield pulled into the path of an SUV driven by 35-year-old Nikki Acuff of Calvert City. Acuff said she attempted to swerve, but was unable to avoid the collision, and struck Barefield's van in the left side.

Barefield and a passenger, her three-year-old great-grandson, were taken to Lourdes Hospital, where Barefield was pronounced dead. The child was not injured.

Acuff was taken to Baptist Health Paducah with reported minor injuries.
