It looks like Paducah will be getting a new city hall.

At Tuesday's city commission meeting, public information officer Pam Spencer updated the mayor and commissioners with results from the citizen engagement process for the City Hall Project.

The city received 103 comments via Facebook and email from 80 different people. According to the comments, 72 percent of those posting were in favor of building a new city hall or renovating a different building.

Another question asked, "Should city hall remain in the civic center zone which encompasses several blocks around the existing site and Dolly McNutt Plaza, or should city hall be moved to another location such as along Broadway?" After discussion by the commission and the city manager, the a motion was approved to proceed with preliminary design to construct a new city hall building in the civic center zone.

A contract for design services and consultation will be brought before the commission in the near future.

Other highlights from the meeting:

- Mayor Kaler read a proclamation proclaiming November 29 as Small Business Saturday. According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are 23 million small businesses in the U.S., and they employ more than 55 percent of the working population. On November 29, visit downtown Paducah between 10 am and 5 pm for a special "Dickens of a Christmas" Small Business Saturday. Enjoy carriage rides, carolers, and much more while doing your holiday shopping.

- Paducah Power System Director of Community Relations and Marketing Andrea Underwood says the lights for the Christmas in the Park light display at Noble Park will be turned on November 28 at 5:30 pm. This is the 18th year for the event. Underwood and Mayor Kaler recognized PPS retiree Erich Vierkant for his work each year on the light display.  Vierkant will be the grand marshal for the Christmas Parade.

- Eagle Scout project Noah DeWeese with the help of Boy Scout Troop 200 created an orienteering course at Noble Park. DeWeese presented the details to the Mayor and Commissioners. Additional information including the distance and heading information for each marker on the course and the answer key can be found here.

Mayor Kaler recognized Paducah Police Officer Melissa Dillon for being named the Kentucky Women’s Law Enforcement Network’s 2014 Officer of the Year. Officer Dillon was recognized last Friday at the KWLEN annual conference in Louisville. She has been with the Paducah Police Department since 2003.  Dillon was nominated for the honor by fellow officer Gretchen Morgan in recognition of her work with the police department’s successful Traffic Enforcement Unit.

- Muralist Robert Dafford and Photographer Philip Gould attended the meeting to present a copy of Gould’s latest book, The Public Art of Robert Dafford.  The pair kicked off a book-signing tour in Paducah. The book details Dafford's vast array of public art including Paducah’s floodwall murals.
