Paxton Weighs in on Possible Write-in Candidates
By WestKyStar Staff
PADUCAH, KY - Mayor Bill Paxton commented Wednesday at the Paducah Rotary Club meeting on the recent developments in race to fill his office in November.

There is a possibility that candidate Robert Coleman, a former City Commissioner who lost to Paxton in the 2008 Mayoral election, could pull out of the race due to lingering health issues after a surgery in April.

Paxton was asked about the possibility of a potential write-in campaign against Kaler, if Coleman withdraws.

"Whether anybody else less known would be willing to jump in there as a write-in candidate against such a strong candidate in Gayle Kaler, I think that would be a long shot, because you don't have a lot of time to get your name out there, and so my guess would be that there would not be anybody who would be willing to do that," Paxton said.

He added that Kaler ran a strong primary, beating both Harnice and Coleman, so he thinks she deserves the win if she is unopposed on November 6.
