At Wednesday's Paducah Riverfront Development Authority meeting, plans were unveiled for the six-story hotel that will be attached to the Convention Center via a skywalk over the floodwall. The plans were approved by the board, with the understanding that the colors for the outside of the building will probably differ from the sketches.
"The first floor, its only view would be the floodwall. So, to get up and to enjoy the spectacular views that are offered by downtown Paducah and the Ohio River, they decided to put all of those functions up on the top floor. The sixth floor will be meeting space, a bar, and a restaurant, so we think that's pretty exciting and a good design idea," PRDA executive director Steve Doolittle told West Kentucky Star.
Construction on the new hotel is expected to begin within 60 to 90 days, with the hotel opening sometime in the fall of 2015.
Doolittle said the PRDA and city of Paducah are very pleased so far with the developers for the hotel, and said this will be one of the nicest hotels in Kentucky.
Once complete, there will still be five to seven acres of undeveloped land between hotel and the new boat dock being built. Doolittle said construction on the boat dock is scheduled to start back up soon as well, with the hopes of having it done in time for the hotel opening.
