UPDATE:  Paducah Police have issued the following correction regarding this incident after reviewing Captain Johnson's written statement:



Capt. Johnson was stopped on North 16th Street, waiting to turn left onto Broadway. He said a woman was on the corner next to him, and appeared to be waiting to cross the street. He waved for her to cross and she declined.



Capt. Johnson waited for a truck to pass on Broadway, then pulled from 16th Street and struck Mr. Berger with the front of his cruiser. Capt. Johnson said he had not previously seen Mr. Berger and does not know which direction he came from





EARLIER STORY: A McCracken County man was injured Thursday afternoon when he reportedly walked into the side of a Paducah Police Department cruiser on Broadway.



According to Paducah Police, Captain George Johnson said he was stopped on North 16th Street, waiting to turn left onto Broadway. He said he saw William E. Berger standing on the corner, and as he turned left, Berger stepped off the curb and into the left side of Johnson’s car.



According to a police report, there was minor damage to the left side of Johnson’s cruiser



Berger was taken to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment of possible injuries to his hip and leg.
