Police are looking for a man suspected of running a check fraud operation in the area.

The Paducah Police Department says Jim Tinsley of Forest Hills Village told officers Wednesday morning that Paducah Bank notified him about a man who had tried to cash a check drawn on Forest Hills Village’s account. The check, written for $1,489.67, did not look like Forest Hills Village’s normal checks, and a bank employee became suspicious.

Police said the bank determined the check had been forged, and seized it. The man attempting to cash it then left the bank. Police say they believe this incident is related to a similar one Saturday morning at Community Financial Services Bank, 3390 Park Avenue, after which a Tennessee pair were arrested for check forgery.

Paducah police obtained a surveillance photograph of a man believed to be supplying the forged checks and transporting the people who are trying to cash them.

Kentucky State Police are reportedly investigating similar incidents in western Kentucky, and advise area financial institutions to be extremely cautious when cashing checks.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity or his whereabouts is asked to call the Paducah Police Department at 270-444-8550 or Crime Stoppers at 270-443-TELL.
