As Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis sits in jail for refusing to license same-sex marriage licenses, Casey County Clerk Casey Davis (no relation to Kim Davis) has been riding his bike across the state in support of Kim. He started in Pikeville and completed his ride in Paducah Friday evening at a rally in Dolly McNutt Plaza, where about 200 gathered to welcome him.

With his wife standing by his side, Casey Davis thanked everyone for coming out on a Friday evening and said how much Kim Davis going to jail for her beliefs means. "The reason for this ride was to raise awareness and I think after this ride people are aware of the injustice that goes on in this country. I believe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very wise man and I've talked to Kim Davis about this. I've been asked over and over again about going to jail and am I willing to go too? I'm not going to quote exactly but Dr. King said whenever there is an injustice like the one Kim Davis is sitting in jail for tonight, someone has to go to jail. He was asked about his respect for the law and his disobedience to the law. Whenever there is an unjust law that goes against God's law and a person is willing to go to jail, willing to accept the penalty so the community can understand and be conscious of the injustice that is going on in our nation, then that woman sitting in that jail in Carter County has the most respect of all - do you agree with that? We're coming to a point in history that is sad and I believe that." The crowd agreed, cheered and thanked him.

Clerk Davis had cited "God's authority'' and refused to issue marriage licenses since the Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage in June.

Five of Davis' deputy clerks said they would obey U.S. District Judge David Bunning's ruling and issue marriage licenses Friday morning. Bunning says Davis could remain in jail for at least a week as he gives her deputies time to comply with his order.

WestKyStar asked different ones why they came to the rally. Marjorie and George Byrd from Grand Rivers said, "We were curious how many would show up to support Kim and her stand to not go against her Christian belief that marriage is between a man and a woman. We know lots of our friends say they feel the same way but so few are bold enough to even be seen at a 'rally' like this. We have gay friends that have been partners for a very long time but they don't want to get 'married'. We can't believe that she's in jail-not in America.  This doesn't seem real. We keep wondering why she personally had to sign the actual marriage license? Who are the ones signing them today while she is in jail? Could they not have signed the licenses and kept her from having to go against her beliefs? But then if she'd gone along with it, people wouldn't be questioning what's going on."

Here is a public comment made after he arrived, with his wife at his side:
