Recovery Month is an initiative sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The observance, celebrated each September for the past 23 years, honors individuals in recovery, their families and friends who have supported them during their journey, and those who work in the prevention, treatment, and recovery support services field.
Mental and/or substance use disorders can affect anyone – regardless of race, age, gender, geographic region, or socio-economic level – but for all individuals, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.
